Hotel Review: Disney’s Villas at Wilderness Lodge

We did not discover the Wilderness Lodge at Disney World until the last few years.  We are not strangers to the Disney World parks and resorts, but had somehow overlooked this less-talked-about hotel.

Wilderness Lodge is now one of our favorites, even though it is not on the monorail track.  It is a serene getaway in the heart of the Magic Kingdom area, and a place that feels most like home at Disney World.

The Wilderness Lodge is not one of the highest-tier hotels on the monorail track of the Magic Kingdom.  Those honors belong to the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and Polynesian resorts.
It is not a budget hotel, like the All-Star hotels.  It is not coveted like the Beach Club (and Boardwalk) hotels with their walking proximity to EPCOT.  It does not have animal safari savannah views, as does Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Instead, the Wilderness Lodge Hotel and Villas (Disney Vacation Club — DVC) offer the convenience of a Magic Kingdom resort (just a short bus or boat ride away), with the feeling that you’ve escaped from all the hectic theme park pace…into a relaxing wilderness haven.

Welcome to Wilderness Lodge.

Below, I rate everything from towel fluffiness to comfort of the bed in my standard rating system.

Staff Service —  5.

Always friendly service at the front desk, bell desk, and the gift shop!  Gift shop is always equipped with shipping boxes should you hmmmm… need a box to ship anything home on the plane.

Traveler tip!  No need to buy more luggage if you have bought too much.  Ask for a cardboard box, and you can ship the box as luggage at the airport.

Pool — 5.
Fenced-in, large “Silver Creek Springs” pool with short slide. Waterfalls drain into pool creating a current at one end.  Small Villa “Hidden Springs” pool has bubble jet ‘springs.’
Parking — 2.
Free self parking that is far from the Villas.  Taxi and valet spots take up room closer to the property.  One of my least favorite parts of the resort.
Comments (and Tips!)

Just for my Blog readers, I have additional tips about the property that are not posted on other sites (Disney hotel reviews, TripAdvisor).

  • Sign up online for My Disney Experience.
Have your Magic Bands shipped to your home.
    Do Online Check-In before arrival.
You receive an email with your room number when your Villa is ready.
Get your parking pass with the security guard at resort entry.
Go directly to your room!  No need to stand in line at the front desk!
  • Laundry for studios is on the 1st floor, near the elevators
  • Room tips:  Get a villa near elevator: it’s a loooooong walk down to far end. Most rooms have a ‘woods’ view — don’t bother asking for it.

TriCircleD Ranch

  • Don’t miss the pony rides and lovely horses and next-door TriCircleD Ranch!
  • See my review posted on Tripadvisor (Level 5 Contributor)!
